FASTWhat do I need to do to start my truck after running out of diesel fuel?
If a truck, a tractor trailer or big rig completely runs out of diesel fuel, and you add more diesel you most likely need to prime the fuel line to get diesel fuel flowing to the motor in order for it to start. In order to prime some trucks, the priming pump needs to be located which in most cases if not always, you will find it on the cold side of the engine on the driver's side.
Some trucks don't have a priming pump at all and if the truck doesn't prime the fuel line on its own when you turn the key, check your trucks user manual or look for large stickers pasted on the hood that can give you useful information on how to restart your truck after running out of fuel.
After running out of time or steps to get your truck running, some truckers use a small amount starter fluid to get the truck running.
CAUTION: It is said to never use too much starter fluid to start a truck after it ran out of diesel because starter fluid is also extremely flammable and a large enough concentration in the motor can cause an explosion that can damage or destroy the truck and could also cause bodily damage. Use extreme caution and avoid doing this step if you do not know how to or if you do not feel comfortable to do it. This step should only be exercised or performed by skilled individuals as a last resort.
