Some motorists run out of gas because their vehicles' fuel gauge is faulty and doesn't work properly and they don't know when they're running out of gas.
Other motorists run out of gasoline or run out of diesel because they underestimated the amount of fuel they needed, or they couldn't locate a gas station on their route.
Once your vehicle runs out of gas or diesel, the most important thing at that moment is to maneuver the vehicle out of traffic lanes and park it in a safe location. Then you need to get a hold of someone who can deliver sufficient fuel whether gasoline or diesel to you in order to get you to the nearest gas station to fill up. If you happen to run out of gas and you decide to walk to the nearest gas station, make sure to buy at least two gallons of gasoline or diesel to make sure that your car will start.
Please Note: many vehicles will not start with only one gallon of gasoline or diesel after they ran out of fuel.
So, make certain that you carry or buy a two gallon of gas container to fill it up with two gallons of gasoline or diesel or you might need to make a second trip to the gas station to purchase enough fuel for your vehicle to start. If you decide to walk to a local gas station, we encourage everyone to first call the gas station and ask them if they have a 2 Gallon fuel container available for you to purchase so that you don't walk there in vain. Do Not settle for a 1 Gallon fuel container because your vehicle might be one of those that need at least two gallons of fuel after it goes completely empty, and you might need to walk back for one more gallon.
It's rare but it does happen, that if your vehicle is LOW on FUEL with some usable fuel still left in the fuel tank but the vehicle is stopped and parked on a hill facing forward downward on an incline the vehicle might not start because the fuel pump is not able to syphon and pump such fuel to the motor but it would otherwise able to do so if the vehicle was on level ground. If this is the case, the operator could place the vehicle on neutral and safely and carefully roll the vehicle forward to level ground and then turn on the vehicle.
