Park the car on a level ground if possible.
Ensure that the vehicle is on park and engage the parking brake all the way.
Chock the tires that are not being changed so that the vehicle doesn’t roll when lifted with the floor jack.
Get the new tire ready before lifting the vehicle and make sure that the tire has the correct amount of air before installing it.
Once the new tire is ready and the vehicle is chocked, use a car jack of sufficient strength to lift up the vehicle safely.
If you have a four-way tire iron loosen up the wheels’ lug nuts before lifting the vehicle so that the tire doesn’t spin when you loosen them.
Once the lug nuts are loose, you can raise the vehicle by placing the jack in the right place of the vehicle, normally about a foot from the wheel from the underside. After lifting the vehicle and the tire being off the ground you can remove the lug nuts and remove the flat tire.
After you remove the flat tire install the spare tire and tighten the lug nuts as much as you can before lowering the vehicle, then lower the vehicle just enough to be able to tighten the lug nuts hard enough to the recommended torque but not all the way down as long as the tire is not able to spin while you try to tighten the lug nuts.
Once you finish tightening the lug nuts you can lower the vehicle all the way, remove the jack and the wheel chocks and you’re done. Finally inspect the area around the car to make sure that there’s no objects around.
